Domain Services Scam

UPDATE: Domain Service Notice Scam 6-23-2013

Another Round of Domain Services Scams Drop In Inboxes

Today, our inbox was inundated with masses of “Domain Services Scam Spam” just exactly as it was one year, one month and one day ago (we grabbed a quick screenshot of the first few showing in our email program). As is always the case, we urge you to avoid these scammers and spammers at all cost. If you have a domain and you think you may have fallen victim to this scam, we recommend taking these steps:

  1. Call your credit card company and begin a charge dispute so that you can request a charge-back.
  2. When asked for proof, fax or email them a copy of the spam/scam email you received.
  3. Provide a link to this article (and/or any of the other legitimate articles out there exposing these scam artists).
  4. If you paid by check, stop payment immediately.
  5. Contact the company you originally registered your domain with and explain the situation. Let them know that you have been scammed and you are trying to take the proper steps to save your domain name. As long as you can prove ownership of the domain and providing you responded in a timely manor (within a few hours of falling for the scam) you should be able to save your domain name from getting into the scammer’s hands.

A few months ago, we posted about this “Domain Service Notice” SCAM circulating via mail (see original post below). Today, we received an inbox filled with SPAM from the same scammers and thought we would share that information with you as well.

Original Post: A Message from Our President

This post is to inform you a scam that has been sweeping across the internet. The scam is called “DOMAIN SERVICE NOTICE”. The scamming company searches across the internet for people who have registered domain names. They then take your contact information and solicit an email that appears to be a legitimate “Domain Renewal” notification.

The following is a screenshot image of what the scam looks like:
